Occupational Health and Safety Manager
As an experienced professional, the OHS Manager provides strategic leadership in overseeing the vision, planning and maintenance of the Occupational Health and Safety Program for our diverse School District. The job duties of the position are broad and include strategic and operational responsibilities for both prevention and compliance within the OHS portfolio.
The Role
Through your expertise and collaborative, relational approach, this role will ensure that Principals/Vice-Principals and other senior staff are engaged in their OHS statutory obligations so that compliance at all levels of the District can be maintained. You are a problem solver with excellent critical thinking and communication skills, eager to promote positive change and understanding through your proactive monitoring and analysis of safety trends. In addition, the OHS Manager is involved in risk management, emergency preparedness efforts and will also be a critical resource for every school’s OHS committee.
Operational responsibilities include conducting assessments, making recommendations, communicating with stakeholder groups, and developing or updating programs, creation and delivery of safety training to staff and maintaining the hazardous materials inventory. With the extensive support of an external organization, duties will also include WorkSafeBC claims management. In addition, the OHS Manager is involved in establishing and controlling operating and capital budgets as well as, preparing and overseeing the OHS annual budget.
The Requirements
Your professional experience includes working with OHS program requirements, claims management, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness and waste management. Your aptitude for harnessing the power of technology to support your work is complemented by a related post-secondary diploma/degree and your Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent designation.
Experience within a multi stakeholder environment is critical to success in this role. This position works closely with Human Resource staff on OHS issues within the context of labour relations, including participation in the grievance process and Collective Bargaining.
